BARE HANDS presents Steve Cole, Literal Exhibition: February 26 - March 27, 2010 Reception: Friday, February 26, 6 - 10pm Gallery Talk: Saturday, March 20, 2pm with Steve Cole Lenten Season Lectures: Saturday March 6, 2pm with Dr. Fisher Humphreys, Samford University Saturday March 13, 2pm with tba WC Installation: Emily Williams Two years ago Steve Cole, Professor of Art at Birmingham-Southern College, began researching several groups that use the Bible as a literal document, such as the Creation Museum in Kentucky and the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas. Cole endeavors to visually illustrate the points of view of these organizations and encourages the viewer to examine these beliefs and practices and their effects on the community. His first body of work from this study was a marvelous exhibit at Birmingham-Southern last spring entitled, Believe. As his research has continued, so have the pieces generated from it. We are pleased to share Literal, the newest body of work, with you and look forward to the evolution of his ongoing inquiries.
